Workshop Goals

About the event:

There have been exploding progresses made in Artificial Intelligence and

Machine Learning (AI/ML) research, and AI/ML applications are expanding

in all areas including science.

That said, we still ask questions daily:

  • What science challenges can we address with AI/ML and concretely how?
  • What AI/ML techniques are out there? Which one should I try?
  • How can we start making concrete research impacts?
  • .. and what are the answers to guide research directions in **Japanese** science communities?

We think our science domains (accelerator, neutrino, cosmology and astrophysics) can benefit from having a workshop to build the “future vision” of AI/ML for our community in Japan.

This “vision” is meant to be the guidance for the community, individual researchers, and even funding agencies to share the coherent view of the most impactful AI/ML research opportunities.

Goals

Ultimately the goal is to build the vision: a prioritized list of research agenda to pursue in the next 5 years.

  1. List 3-5 key domain research challenges coupled with AI/ML techniques as solutions. Describe reasons behind the list and, if possible, with prioritization.
  2. Identify the resource needs to pursue those AI/ML research topics and synergies across domain science.
